The Trail Blazers have struggled mightily in the past month with their late-game offensive execution, and coach Terry Stotts says go ahead and place the blame on him.

At the Clippers they took three ill-advised three-pointers late in the game -- two by Nicolas Batum and one by Matthews -- that doomed them to a 122-117 loss. Against the Lakers, Lillard forced an ugly three-pointer at the buzzer that was contested after his defender didn’t go for a pump fake. Stotts says he has a basic late-game philosophy when it comes to calling crunch-time plays.

In the season’s final 20 games, the late-game execution figures to be magnified even more. For the season, the Blazers are 2-6 in games decided by two points or less. In games decided by five points or less, the Blazers are 10-5.

Whether Stotts turns to Aldridge, or Lillard, or Matthews or Batum ... it’s anybody’s guess. To Stotts, having that many options is a luxury, even when it doesn’t work out.
“Look, if you win, you chose wisely,’’ Stotts said. “But the ultimate proof of the pudding is whether you win or not, or whether you make the shot or not. I have to do a better job making sure I put us in position to make that shot.’’
